Turn someone else's success from jealousy and intimidation to motivation with one small perspective shift | 80s/90s Dance & Driving Music | Content & Book recommendations
Happy Friday everyone, I hope you enjoy the first issue of this newsletter.
Let’s get into it.
Thoughts
Jealousy/Intimidation → Motivation
Seeing someone else doing better than you can make you feel like it's not worth giving it a shot.
Success can trigger sinister thoughts like "Yeah ok but they're worse than me at other stuff, so they can have this one."
It's an unproductive thought pattern - a defence mechanism so you don't feel insignificant - an ego driven response.
If someone is better than you, and has achieved higher levels of success, they have shown you that it is possible to attain it - that’s all.
They're just handing the torch to you to work as hard as they did, showing you the way.
Change your perception of them - they probably wish the best for you, not looking down on you, for they too were once in your position.
This shift turns all our negative energy into admiration and inspiration.

Sounds
This week’s sounds are inspired by some 80s/90s dance sounds. I watched the Moonage Daydream, the David Bowie film and the soundtrack inspired me to do some digging.
Hallo Spaceboy (with the Pet Shop Boys) - Pet Shop Boys Remix
A total shift from the original track, giving the songs the classic Pet Shop Boys twist - a real body mover. Anything the Pet Shop Boys touch seems to turn to gold.
Sola Sistim - Underworld
Underworld is a Welsh electronic music group, formed in 1987. The discography is one of the best ever, in my opinion, but here is one to start with if you’ve never listened to Underworld.
Drive - The Cars
As I wrote “Drive - The Cars” I smirked as if telling you to drive the cars. You’re welcome for that great advice.
This dreamy track from the Boston band is a perfect night driving track - be sure to check out the rest of the album too.
Plug
This week’s plug instalment will look at a Youtube channel from a personal brand guru and book from one of my favourite authors of all time.
- on Youtube (DanKoeTalks) and Twitter (@thedankoe).
Dan Koe has been integral in my motivation to work on old passions, like my articles, and new endeavours, like this newsletter.
Dan’s ‘One Person Business’ advice looks to help others monetise their own personality, and much more - who wouldn’t like that?
The Spontaneous Fulfilment of Desire -
Deepak Chopra is probably my all-time favourite author. His way of communicating the underlying tones of life is unmatched. He makes you feel like your problems make sense, explains the unexplainable and every book of his I’ve read calms my whole life down.
This book in particular talks about “coincidence” and how if you pay enough attention, they aren’t really coincidences, but pure miracles gifted to us. When you pay attention to life, you see all its beauty amongst the chaos.
It also makes sense of the synchronicity you see throughout nature (birds making turns in groups, fish swimming in sync etc.) and relates it to quantum physics in the most miraculous way - highly recommend.
That’s it for Week 1!
Let me know if you enjoyed it - I had a great time writing it and would love to hear from you.
