“Fortune favours the bold.”
— Virgil

Life is too complex to navigate alone. You need luck. You need momentum. A little help from the universe…
It seems like fortune follows some people. Not because life is perfect, but because of something deeper. Why?
The Divine Mirror
Sufi Parable — slightly adapted
A student asks a Sufi master, “Why do I keep encountering rude, angry people? Why do things keep going wrong for me?”
The master takes him to a still pool.
“What do you see?”
“My reflection.”
“So it is with the world,” the master says.
Looking at the bright side makes everything brighter
I called my little sister, Lara, the other day.
We were talking about life and about me and Georgia's transient few months moving cities. Even though there have been lots of moving parts lately, things have been coming together right at the last moment. We had a sublet for the period without a rental, and then we got the perfect place just in time.
She said, "Things always just work out for you guys."
We were between houses. No certainty. No bed.
But it did feel like everything was working out. Why? Why did it feel like the world had our backs?
A few things came to mind…
We treated everyone we met with respect and honesty — this makes people want to help you. And we received so much help.
We have been optimistic — almost irrationally optimistic. Searching in the depths of the bad things for that silver lining. This is more important than any science. Every upcoming challenge we approached with a "it'll be fine!" mentality. And with calmness and persistence, it always came together. Stress and negativity get you nowhere and give you the illusion that the world is conspiring against you.
Willingness to change plans — not everything goes to plan. That is the only certainty I've noticed in my 28 years. But when you're willing to move your goal posts, you can make even a loss a win.
Maybe the world does move in your favour when you stop resisting it.
Maybe fortune follows flexibility.
Treat people well.
Let go of the plan.
Choose the bright side.
Life is a reflection of your attitude
It may sound cliche or cheesy, but good fortune really is a reflection of your internal attitude.
When you believe the world is conspiring for you, it feels like it is.
Because what is "not working out" after all?
It's being mad at the world. It's thinking about things through a negative lens. It's being upset. It's being bummed out.
When you don’t have a bed, you can consider that "not working out" or you can appreciate the couch to sleep on and consider it as a "that worked out!" moment.
What you see in the mirror is what you bring to it.
Sincerely,
eren
