The Beginning of Eren Elsewhere
A weekly letter in your mailbox to discuss thoughts, music and more :)
My first newsletter.
If you’re reading this, thanks for being here - it means a lot.
This will be a space where I’ll share:
my weekly thoughts in short article form
my favourite songs of the week
the pieces of content I’ve been consuming that week (books, podcasts, articles etc.)
What is the name Eren Elsewhere?
My mother’s name is Nigar - she grew up in Australia so you can imagine how difficult role call was…
When she was naming me, she decided to go for something a little more friendly in the English language - I guess she didn’t expect the “Isn’t that a girls name?”
Eren is the Turkish word for Saint, I’ve grown to love my name over the years.
I treat the name Saint as permanent goal for myself that I’ll never achieve, like a carrot on a stick.
The term "St. Elsewhere" is derived from medical school jargon for a hospital that serves as a dumping ground for patients not wanted by more prestigious medical facilities.
Thus, the name Eren Elsewhere was born.
Gnarles Barkley (popular for the hit ‘Crazy’) has a beauty called ‘St. Elsewhere’ which was the first time I heard “Saint Elsewhere” - Cee-Lo Green sings about leaving Earth for a make-believe word of his own.
So to me, Saint Elsewhere is a world where the unaccented are accepted, the weird are nurtured and where the real interesting stuff happens.
So - why this, why now?
My 9-5 career as an engineer has taught me a lot of things about life - one of those things is that I cannot die without trying my best to create a brand that leverages my passions, build a community of people and hopefully inspire others to live an interesting life.
I have so many different interests, and I make so many mistakes in all of them, that I think a variety of people can relate to me, and hopefully find my words helpful and interesting.
I haven’t been able to consolidate everything before, so I thought:
Why not create a newsletter?
The Community
An email newsletter to me a two-way street where you contact me with any ideas that have been created in the space between us.
I’m hoping this community/space we create via newsletter will be full of thought provoking ideas, mental breakthroughs and an all-round growth mindset.
Musically, I hope you can connect to the music I suggest, I have a deep passion for music and it manifests in my side-career of DJing around town, I’m also working on producing some music at the moment, with a goal of getting a vinyl press one day soon.
I’m definitely deep into the digging game, so I can hopefully do the heavy lifting for you and send you some quality tunes for ya ears.
Specifically, what will you be seeing?
I’ll be splitting the newsletter into three sections:
Thoughts
Here I’ll be writing my weekly thought piece - this is something I started doing about a year ago just as a bit of a journal of things I’ve been thinking about. I love when my friends and colleagues I share it with find it useful.
Sound
Sound will be the section I share my favourite music I’ve uncovered - from digital to record store gems that I’ve uncovered.
I’m thinking three songs per week, each with a short blurb of why I’ve enjoyed them, where I found them and what I like about them. I’ll be sharing music f via spending too much money.
Plug
Plug is all about recommending, or plugging, my favourite content from the week. I’ll be outlining my favourite articles, books, videos, shows and more.
4. Tip of the Iceberg
This description email is just the beginning.
You’ll be seeing an entry every Friday - something to look forward to :)
Like I said earlier, I want this to be a two-way street - I want it to add value to both of us.
Feel free to reply to any of my emails, DM me on twitter or instagram @erenelsewhere.
Hit the ‘Subscribe’ button to give it a shot - you can unsubscribe at any time if you feel so inclined :)

Very good start. It makes me look forward to future weekly posts.
